Galaxy Nexus Prime Release Date: Nexus Camera Offers Superior Quality
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus and its operating system, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, have received countless positive reviews prior to their release. According to those who have tested the phone, it has lived up to the hype - especially, in the camera department.
"The 1.3-megapixel, front-facing camera is something we'd expect on a Google flagship phone, but the 5-megapixel, rear-facing camera isn't exactly a show of force," says CNET's Editor's Take. "Still, Android 4.0's new camera software could make up for it, and could even surpass the 8-megapixel camera in image quality and photographic satisfaction, but this is a deep hands-on test for another day."
Although news of the cameras 5-megapixel feature was not welcomed with much fanfare, the experts have tested and praised the improvement.

"The quality of the camera sensor is equally as important and the Galaxy Nexus uses a sensor of the highest quality," says Matthew Bruen from cmvlive.com. "This more than compensates for the apparent lack of resolution and the only time when you may notice a drop in quality is when your image is viewed on a very large screen."
Aside from a much-improved still camera, a secondary front facing camera offers a resolution 1.3 megapixels and this means that video calling is possible with a number of different applications, including Skype. Also, a Face Unlock feature on the Nexus, which unlocks the phone through facial recognition, has garnered the camera much praise.
"Resolution wise the device keeps pace with its rivals in this department by offering 1080P resolution. This standard is higher than the alternative 720P HD capture as it squeezes 1080 progressively scanned lines into a frame rather than 720," says Bruen. "If you are linking the phone up to a compatible television this is how you get to see your footage at its very best on the big screen."
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been credited with a superb quality still camera, despite only offering 5-megapixel resolution, and its primary camera is accompanied by an excellent secondary camera and video capture that exceeds expectations.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will reportedly be available in Europe and the U.S. this month.
