Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Device Not the World's Thinnest Smartphone

Pre-orders will kick off in Canada starting next week for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, but some customers might be disappointed with its release if they are expecting a thin device.

A Japanese consumer recently obtained the device and saw that the smartphone’s size seems to be quite overbearing.

The consumer compared the device to a Sony Ericsson Xperia phone, and in terms of size; the Galaxy Nexus’s 4.65-inch display engulfed the 4.3-inch Sony handset.

The device also appeared to be thicker than the original model Samsung debuted at the “Mobile Unpacked” event last month.

Verizon just released the Motorola Droid Razr, a device that is arguably the world’s thinnest smartphone and analysts expect the Galaxy Nexus to enter that same realm in terms of thickness.

The Galaxy Nexus is also making its way to the carrier as an exclusive, joining the Razr, and Gizmocrunch said customers will not be driven towards buying the Nexus once they see how thick it is.

The smartphone’s 4.65-inch screen size does not allow for much wiggle room when it comes to sizing on the handsets body.

However, the Galaxy Nexus screen is said to be one of the highest quality displays in the market.

Samsung compared watching a movie on its screen to viewing one on a high definition television, because it allows users to check out their favorite flicks in 16:9 widescreen ratios.

The new device will sport other impressive specifications, including a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, and a 5-megapixel camera capable of filming in 1080p HD.

It will also be the first device to run on Google’s new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
