The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available on U.S. carriers in the very near future and fans of the phone are certain to be wondering on what this company could do with next year's Galaxy S5.

Specification rumors for the device have been scarce, but judging from Samsung's track record, most tech enthusiasts could probably make some good educated guesses on what the smartphone will be like.

Here is a list of the top 5 features that could end up on the Galaxy S5 when it launches sometime next year.

3D

Now that smartphones feature full HD displays the next logical step is three dimensions. Smartphone companies such as such as LG are already releasing 3D-ready devices, so Samsung's next flagship will have to keep up with some of the other innovators in the market. Smartphones also seem to be following in the footsteps of TV, which also went the 3D route in recent years. Samsung's 3D TVs are wildly popular, but in order to make it effective on a smartphone, the company would have to find a way to make it 3D without the user having to put on glasses.

Flexible Body

Samsung has already debuted its YOUM flexible displays and older rumors pointed to the company debuting the screens on the Galaxy S4. However, the smartphone launched with a basic design and a similar look to its predecessors. Samsung will have to do something a bit more risky to excite customers next year and a flexible display or body might just do the trick.

Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie

The next Samsung flagship will definitely feature this build of Android, which is expected to debut in the coming months. The Galaxy S3 launched with Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and was bumped up to Android 4.1, JellyBean. The Galaxy S4 launched a bit too early for Key Lime Pie and comes with the latest build of JellyBean. There is no word on what Key Lime Pie will actually be like when it launches, but it will most likely show up in some form on the Galaxy S5.

Messaging System

Samsung still seems to lack a messaging system which relies on data. BlackBerry has BBM and iPhone has iMessage. It would be interesting if Samsung added something called S Message that allows users to text without being charged.

Waterproof, Drop Proof

Better damage and water resistance would definitely give the Galaxy S5 a bit of an advantage over competitors such as the iPhone, which is more fragile. The Galaxy S already is more durable than Apple's smartphone, taking it under water would just be another thing for Samsung to boast about in the next go round. There are many smartphones on the market that are waterproof- Samsung would just have to find a way to make it look more trendy.
