'Girl Meets World' Not a 'Boy Meets World' Reunion, Ben Savage Says
Fans of "Boy Meets World" should not expect to see all of their favorite characters return in the new series "Girl Meets World." Ben Savage, star of both series, recently explained that "Girl Meets World" is not a mere "reunion" but "a new show … for a new generation."
Savage's time on "Boy Meets World" garnered him a fan base, and the show gained its own fan base as well. Now, with "Girl Meets World," Savage is moving up and will play the father to a 13-year-old daughter named Riley; his on-screen love and wife, played by Danielle Fishel, will also return for the series.
"We're not doing a 'Boy Meets World' reunion," Savage told TV Guide. "It's a new show that will hopefully speak to a new generation, and I think people will get that. We're not going to mess with their memories; we're doing an entirely new thing that will hopefully help a new generation grow."

"Boy Meets World" focused on Savage's coming-of-age character named Cory Matthews. He and best friend Shawn, played by Rider Strong, grew up together, faced the challenges of being a teenager, and finally, became young adults together. Along the way, Cory fell in love with the girl next door, Topanga, played by Fishel. The iconic couple wed at the end of the show and moved away together.
Fans have been eager to see Cory and Topanga reunite on-screen, and Savage revealed that at least one other beloved character will reappear for the series: the teacher and neighbor known as Mr. Feeney. However, the verdict is still out on whether Cory's best friend Shawn will return.
"I'm very hesitant, and that's why I'm not fully 100 percent in yet," Strong told TV Guide. "I don't think anyone from the show expected the response to be so positive, so I'm excited, but I'm going to wait and see. If it's a good situation, I feel like I owe it to the fans."
