GRAMMY Nominations 2011: Snubs and Surprises

This year’s nominees have been announced during the 2011 Grammy’s Nominations Concert Wednesday and included both snubs and shocks.

Kanye West led the number of nominations with seven, including a bid for Song of the Year with his track “All of the Lights.” His other nominations are all found under the rap category. However, West’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was not nominated for Best Album despite being praised by critics this year.

British singing sensation Adele did not suffer any snubs even with her recent hiatus due to throat surgery. The 22-year-old earned six nominations, all for her album 21 which is this year’s top-selling album. Up for Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Vocal Album, 21 includes Adele’s hit song “Rolling in the Deep” – which earned her three more nods for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Short Form Music Video. The singer also received a bid for Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Someone Like You.”

Taylor Swift’s album Speak Now was missing from the Best Album of the Year category, surprising and disappointing many fans. The country singer did receive a nod for Best Country Album though, in addition to nominations for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song for her hit “Mean.”

The fourth annual “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” Wednesday night not only announced the nominees but saw performances by them as well as past Grammy Award winners.

Nominees Katy Perry, Rihanna, and The Band Perry, also gave performances during the concert, which served as the preamble to the upcoming awards ceremony.
