HTC ThunderBolt and Desire S Ice Cream Sandwich Update to Roll Out This Month

HTC has announced that both the Thunderbolt and Desire S smartphones will receive the Android 4.0 update sometime before the end of the month.

This is good news for ThunderBolt owners who were unsure if the smartphone would receive the update at all.

The company recently revealed why some of its smartphones such as the HTC Desire HD would not receive the ICS update.

"We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android," said HTC. "In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, and HTC Desire HD."

Tablets created by the company such as the HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G, and Jetstream will also not be receiving the Android 4.0 update. These devices currently run Android 3.2, Honeycomb and work at an optimum level with the software.

The update to the ThunderBolt and Desire S will not roll out for all users on the same day as some will have to wait until early Sept. to receive it. The issuing of updates will be determined by what region the owner lives in.

The company also assured HTC smartphone owners that minor software updates will still be issued to devices that will not receive Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Android 4.0 will also bring all HTC devices up to Sense 3.6. It does not update devices to Sense 4 because that software is hardware specific.

HTC also released its One X smartphone that comes with Android 4.0 pre-installed earlier this year.
