There have been rumors of HTC releasing PlayStation certified devices in the second half of this year, so this news is confirmation that they were not just hearsay.

Sony first announced its plans for bringing the PlayStation brand to mobile devices last year.

The only devices on the market that feature this software are the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia acro, Xperia S, Xperia ION and Sony-made tablets. PlayStation Vita is expected to have access to PlayStation Mobile in the near future as well.

HTC will be the first third-party company to release devices that are PlayStation certified.

PlayStation Mobile will allow smartphone users to have access to PlayStation content including games and other forms of media.

Devices that are PlayStation Certified must run Android 2.3, Gingerbread and meet specific hardware requirements that have not been announced yet.

The open beta for PlayStation Mobile was released on April 19 of this year.

Any games purchased on the platform will be available through the PlayStation Store that is also feature on the PlayStation 3.

Currently, only original PlayStation titles are being released through the program.

All of the games will be controlled by touchscreen. However, devices such the PlayStation Vita and Sony Xperia Play feature analog buttons that the games could be played with.
