iPhone 4S Battery Fix Does Not Work, Say Customers

Apple’s iOS 5 software update was supposed to fix a variety of problems, including the much-discussed iPhone 4S battery issue, but many users have complained that the fix did not work.

The tech giant’s support forum is filled with over 200,000 discussions, many of them frustrated with the inefficient fix. Some users claim that their battery life is even worse than when they originally got their iPhone 4S.

Forum commentary reveals just how upset many consumers are.

“Yesterday I upgraded to 5.0.1 and now battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. Yesterday 20 min of web surfing took it down 1 percent. This morning, after the upgrade last night, 20 min of surfing took it down 10 percent. That's 10 times worse!” says AppleEddies.

Other users are criticizing Apple as well, calling the newest update “so disappointing,” “as bad as the 3GS,” and “shockingly bad!!!”

One iPhone 4S owner had his own theory, accusing the company of simply changing the display of the battery status. Apple was also accused of the exact thing for AntennaGate, the popular name for the iPhone 4’s antenna problems.

Apple’s solution, iOS 5.0.1, was given to all customers with the iOS 5 operating system across all Apple devices. The most prevalent of those problems was the iPhone 4S battery drain, which would leave the handset’s battery drained after sometimes only five or six hours.

In response to the complaints, the California consumer electronics company promised that a repair for the issue would come “in a few weeks,” they said in a statement.

Clearly, that update did not work for everyone.

Now, some iPhone 4S users think they have a solution, at least temporarily: simply go back to iOS 5.

“Please help! How do I go back to 5.0.0?” reads one poster’s plea. Many others echoed his sentiment.

Even more troublesome, the update seems to have disabled some parts of the iPhone 4S’ more important features, like iCloud, Siri, or the iPod music app. Because of the issues since the phone’s release in October, one user even threatened to go back to “the company Blackberry.”

Needless to say, Apple has some explaining to do.
