iPhone 5 Release Date: 4G LTE iPhone 5 Coming to NYC in 2012?
AT&T might bring its 4G LTE network to customers in New York City sometime soon, according to a recent announcement made by the company's Senior Vice President Larry Solomon.
AT&T Wireless CEO Ralph de la Vega announced in 2008 that tethering would come to the iPhone, but this did not happened until 2010, according to the 9to5Google technology website.
AT&T customers in New York City anticipating to use 4G networks soon should not hold their breath, because Vega’s statements took a while to develop.

On the other hand, the iPhone 5 is expected to launch sometime in 2012 and is rumored to be compatible with 4G LTE networks. Thus, it would make sense for AT&T to speed up the process of bringing LTE to one of the world’s most important cities.
Despite the company taking its time to move, 9to5 Google said there is a good chance New York City will see LTE from AT&T soon.
“Even with the background being sketchy, the math is in your favor NYCers, AT&T says it will cover 70 million customers in LTE by the end of the year. It is going to be hard to get there with their 15 markets if NYC isn’t one of them,” wrote the website.
The website added that AT&T was in New York City last week and handed out LTE smartphones, including the HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, to reviewers.
The HTC Vivid sports a 4.5-inch screen and is compatible with 4G LTE networks.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is an upgraded version of the original S2 that will also work at 4G LTE speeds making the device a strong competitor for the upcoming Galaxy Nexus set to be exclusively launched on Verizon.
