iPhone 5 Rumors: Replacement Parts Leaked
Replacement parts allegedly for the iPhone 5 have been leaked by Chinese resellers on the internet this week.
Tech website MacPost displayed images of the parts that they are saying are for the next generation iPhone.
“They’re superficially similar but are subtly different to the iPhone 4,” wrote Mike Webb on MacPost. “Design details of the iPhone 5 are scarce, but it could be a “total revamp” in physical design.”
The site displays what could be a possible replacement earphone audio jack for the device.
The Earphone audio jack replacement parts displayed are available in both black and white, leading them to believe the iPhone 5 will be sold in both of these colors.
Last week, images of an iPhone 5 proximity light sensor flex cable leaked, which according to iFixit’s Kyle Wiens, points to a major design revamp for the new device.
This part differs from the iPhone 4 version in that it doesn’t contain the mic, while the iPhone 4 part contains the power button, noise canceling mic and proximity/ambient light sensors according to MacPost.
They attained the part from a reseller who gained access to “parts of an unknown iPhone model,” which was claimed to be the iPhone 5. However, the site states that this does not mean it will make its way into the version Apple will launch.
“Manufacturers develop multiple versions of parts to test out different functionalities and many of them don’t make it past the Apple’s R&D lab,” MacPost has commented.
Based on the recent rumors, the iPhone 5 will most likely have a larger screen than the iPhone 4, and a thin tapered design.
MacPost also reports that the model is expected to run on a dual-core A5 processor which will give the device a significant speed upgrade.
In other iPhone 5 news, Digitimes reported that Apple has increased its second-half 2011 iPhone orders to 56 million units which will include the current and next generation versions of the device.
Roughly half of that order will be placed for the iPhone 5, according to Digitimes, with iPhone 4’s and 3GS’s making up the rest.
The iPhone 5 is set for a fall release, expected to drop in September or October.
Apple’s annual fall event scheduled for September 1 will most likely release more details on this highly anticipated device.
