iPhone 5s Vs. iPhone 5C: Specs and Features Comparison

Apple launched the new iPhone 5S and low-cost iPhone 5C last month and provided the market with a next-gen smartphone and an updated version of last year's model that was more affordable.

Both devices have fared extremely well in terms of sales, but which one gives customers the better bang for their buck? Even though the iPhone 5S is far superior in many departments, it still will run consumers twice the price of the 5C. Is Apple really offering enough updates for them to shell out the extra minimum of $100? Here is a brief spec and feature comparison of the two devices.

The iPhone 5S maintains the classy look of the previous generation Apple smartphones and comes in new colors such as Gold, Space Grey and Silver. The design consists of metal on the outside and retains many of the same aesthetics that made the iPhone 5 such a hit. The iPhone 5C comes with a plastic covering on its outside shell that can be purchased in many colors including white, pink, yellow, blue and green. It has the classiness of the iPhone 5 or 5S, but brings a refreshing change to the purchasing options giving customers many choices for color. It also would look great in the hands of a child or teenager.

Speed/Processor

The iPhone 5S outclasses the competition with its A7 processor with 64-bit architecture. This makes it the first 64-bit handset. The iPhone 5C comes with the same A6 chip found in the iPhone 5 which is still impressive and is more than efficient for the average smartphone user. The 5S also packs a new M7 motion chip that allows for better experience with walking and fitness apps.

Display

Both devices come with the same exact display that was found on the iPhone 5. The screen has 1136 x 640 pixel resolution at 326ppi and features great color and detail.

Camera

The camera found on the iPhone 5S maintains the same amount of megapixels as the 5C and 5, but also has some new features added to it such as Auto Image Stabilization, True Tone Flash, and Burst Mode. The iPhone 5C retains the same camera as the iPhone 5 which is still great for photography with the detailed pictures it takes.

New Features

The iPhone 5S also includes the new fingerprint sensor, which can be found under the device's home button. It introduces TouchID to Apple fans and will protect their devices for years to come. This sensor does not come with the iPhone 5C. The cheaper version doesn't really introduce anything new to the iPhone line aside from its originally designed exterior.

Conclusion

The iPhone 5S is certainly state of the art and is probably the handset most fans would want to get their hands on. But despite its major advancements, it has not jumped that far ahead of the iPhone 5/5C in many of its departments, making the 5C a valid option for customers looking to get the Apple smartphone experience for half the price.
