Islamic Threats to Coptic Residents in Egypt Must Stops, Says Maspero Youth Union

The Maspero Youth Union (MYU) denounced the recent threats made by the Islamic hardliners regarding Copts who are organizing a June 30 demonstration, even though those calling for the demonstrations have said their message to the president in a democratic and peaceful manner.

The union took to their official Facebook page to express its wishes- namely that the Egyptian president would end this state of confusion they live in by calling for early presidential elections, so that the people will have their say.

"Why do the president's supporters rage so?" a message posted on Facebook read. "What is the reason behind all these threats, as well as burning 'Tamarod' headquarters?"

Organizers have called for legal investigations for those who issue threats to Copts and other religious minorities.

The Muslim Brotherhood and Islamic hardliners are opposing the peaceful expression of opinion, they added, while attempting to justify the violence they practice.

The union called for everyone to abide by the peaceful demonstrations and not to be deceived by any skirmishes that might take place, pointing out that past experiences.

Civilian currents and parties in Egypt have been calling for mass demonstrations across the country on June 30 to overthrow President Morsi. Such calls are being faced with threats from Islamists, the latest of which was from Assem Abdel Maged, a member of the Shura Council, who warned Copts of participating in these demonstrations.
