Jay-Z and Kanye West Break Records With 'Watch The Throne'
It’s been a successful month for rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West, since they broke the iTunes record for most albums sold in one week with “Watch The Throne.”
According to Billboard, the two rappers moved 290,000 copies of their new album via digital download on iTunes.
The previous record for most albums sold in one week on iTunes was held by Coldplay, whose 2008 album “Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends” moved 282,000 units in its first seven days.

Thanks to an exclusive iTunes only release on August 8, “Watch the Throne” broke this record before physical copies even hit stores on August 16.
In total sales, “Watch The Throne” has almost gone gold, with physical and digital sales adding up to 426,661, according to Allhiphop.com.
The album ranked second to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” for most copies sold in an album’s first week this year.
The controversial singer moved 1.1 million copies of her third LP with the help of a $1 Amazon.com download, according to Billboard.
Jay-Z enjoys his 12th number one record with “Watch The Throne.”
The rap duo’s opening track on the album, “No Church in the Wild,” recently made waves on Twitter for its religious content.
Jay-Z questions if a “thug’s” prayers reach God on the song, while Frank Ocean opens up the track by singing “What’s a god to a non-believer who don’t believe in anything.”
Kanye West won a Grammy in 2005 for his song “Jesus Walks,” and is no stranger to music with religious content.
Jay-Z recently made headlines after being accused of including “Satanic” imagery in his album artwork and music videos.
The rapper denied the claim and stated that he does believe in one God and disregards aligning himself with one specific religion.
Jay-Z was spotted at a New Jersey Nets basketball game earlier this year sporting a t-shirt which read “Jesus is Lord.”
