John Travolta on Savages: 'Film a Throwback to 1960s Free Love'

John Travolta is back in the spotlight this weekend for the right reasons following a torrid few months. The "Saturday Night Fever" star's new movie "The Savages" starring Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, and Taylor Kitsch, opened this weekend to mixed reviews.

The Oliver Stone-directed movie has been praised by some but has upset others for its explicit portrayal of sex and violence.

The movie is about a young woman (Blake Lively) who gets kidnapped by a drug cartel because of her relationship with two American drug dealers. During the movie Lively's character is sexually involved with both drug dealers, who areplayed by Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch.

Travolta compared the messy love relationships in the move to the 1960s, saying: "[In the] late '60s, early '70s, free love and menages a trois were kind of … the sexual revolution that was introduced at that time…. So this is a kind of throwback to it and I know it's still happening today as well. It just was very, kind of newsworthy in those days."

Salma Hayek was also aware of the extreme violence during filming and was sure to keep her daughter away from the set. She said. "I mean, it's very sexy, this movie… It's very, very violent so if you're the kind of people who like sexy and violence, if you like it hot, this movie is for you. But done beautifully. It's very elegant…. She's not going to watch this movie… Actually, this was the only movie that she was not on the set. I usually bring her on the set and she always likes to sit right next to the monitor and she bosses everyone around."

John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston attempted to end rumors of a divorce at the premiere of "Savages" in Los Angeles on Monday night.

The actor and his wife of 22 years gave a very public display of affection while posing before cameras on the red carpet, and appeared to be unaffected by the recent influx in sexual assault claims being brought against Travolta by various men.

Preston, who had reportedly walked out of the couple's marital home due to the gay sex scandals, was all smiles for the cameras this week as she hugged and kissed Travolta, 58.
