Justin Bieber Helps Build School In Guatemala

Justin Bieber, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter, said his life has changed after recently working to help build a schoolhouse in Guatemala.

Bieber performed in Guatemala City on Saturday but made sure to impact the poverty stricken villagers in the Guatemalan jungle by giving away the shoes on his feet and teaming up with Pencils of Promise to build a school in the community.

"Today was 1 of the most powerful and humbling days of my life. Thank u Guatemala & @PencilsOfPromise," Bieber tweeted after taking part in the experience Saturday. "Today I saw real happiness. So powerful."

The singer went on to express the importance of giving on his social networking website.

"Giving feels way better than receiving. Give to others," Bieber tweeted. "Give of yourself. In return you will feel more happiness then u have ever known."

Although he has come under fire in the media his partying, reckless driving, alleged marijuana use and aggressive behavior for months, Bieber may have shifted his focus to changing the world.

"Great talk about life tonight with the fellas. We want to give back and help the world," he tweeted. "We want to do as much good as we can. U can too."

Last August, Bieber broke Make-A-Wish Foundation's record by granting the charity's 200th wish. Pattie Mallette, Bieber's mother, previously stood up for her son amid media scrutiny, saying that many are overlooking how many good things he does. Mallette appeared on Bravo TV's "Watch What Happens Live" where she also admitted that she knew her son was not always on his best behavior.

"I definitely think he's getting a bad rap ... He knows what I disagree with, and he knows all the things that I'm really proud of him for, too," Mallette told Cohen. "I mean, people don't talk about all the great things he does every day."

Mallette pointed out that her son meets with children from the Make-A-Wish charity foundation before each of his shows.
