Bieber, the 19-year-old Canadian crooner, returned to his home country where he was accused of assaulting a limousine driver last December. The singer was arrested on Dec. 30 when six people including Bieber were picked up outside of a nightclub in Toronto by the driver.

On the way to a hotel, one of the passengers and the driver reportedly got into an altercation which resulted in the latter being struck in the back of the head, NBC News reports. The driver then left his vehicle and called the police, resulting in an assault charge for Bieber.

However, the singer's camp is maintaining his innocence.

"The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault," Bieber's attorney said in a statement issued to E!. "We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States. Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent. As the matter is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or of our defense at this time."

Although Bieber was released from Toronto law enforcement custody after turning himself in, the news follows reports that the Canadian singer was arrested in Miami last week for a DUI.

Aside from his recent arrest, Bieber has been scrutinized after being accused of egging his neighbor's home which could lead to legal trouble, along with other aggressive behavior.

Still, he recently took to Twitter to give fans a glimpse of his innermost thoughts amid media speculation.

"YOU ARE ALL WORTHY NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS >> BE STRONG GOD IS WITH US ALL> MY BELIEBERS CHANGED MY LIFE," Bieber tweeted last week. "I WILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL. (SIC)"
