Kanye and Jay-Z teamed up for a tour back in 2011 to promote their collaborative Watch the Throne album. However, West's last solo tour took place back in 2008 with his critically acclaimed "Glow in the Dark" outing. That tour promoted two of his albums including 2007's Graduation and 2008's 808s and Heartbreak.

Both Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West stirred up a fair amount of controversy this year.

West released his sixth solo album and titled it Yeezus which combines his nickname Yeezy and Jesus. The record received mixed reviews due to its experimental sound that left most longtime Kanye West fans disappointed and confused.

Lamar came off a great year in 2012 as he released his critically acclaimed Good Kid M.A.A.D. City that was deemed a classic by many critics and hip-hop heavyweights. He also received backlash for how quickly his album was received as something on par with some of the genre's greatest works by skeptics.

The Compton rapper also made headlines this year after he released the controversial "Control" verse on Big Sean's song. Lamar calls out many of hip-hop's current stars and lets them know that he will out rap them on any song he is featured on with them. Various rappers such as Joel Ortiz, Papoose, and Joe Budden responded to the song.
