Kim Kardashian, who once complained that criticisms about her pregnancy weight "hurt my soul," now says that she believes God was trying to teach her a valuable lesson during her emotional struggles.

The 5-foot-3 reality TV star, who makes a living off of her good looks, admittedly gained 50 pounds during her pregnancy with her daughter North West last year. Subsequently, she was subject to cruel taunts about her weight in the media and while at the time the criticism crushed her ego, it ultimately served her with great wisdom.

The self-professed Christian appears on the latest cover of Elle magazine alongside the headline "And God Created KIM," which is a play on Scripture.

"I'd think God was doing this for a reason. He was saying: 'Kim, you think you're so hot, but look what I can do to you,'" Kardashian said during her Elle interview. "My body just went crazy. After five months I swore I'd never get pregnant again. I got so huge and it felt like someone had taken over my body."

Also during the interview, Kardashian, who is world famous for her voluptuous figure, admitted that she used to pray to God that her body would stop developing during puberty because she suffered with low self esteem.

"I'm an Armenian girl, I have shape, and it turned out people liked that. That makes me feel good about myself and about other women for being so supportive," she said. "I am a confident woman, but I didn't just arrive confident – it has built over the years and that is a big part of who I am now."

The E! star gave birth to North in June 2013, five weeks early, and in May this year she married rapper and self-described "married Christian man" Kanye West in Italy. Rich Wilkerson Jr., who is an associate pastor of Trinity Church in Miami, officiated the ceremony.

The Hollywood pair is currently trying for baby number two and Kardashian, 34, said she is leaving it up to the Almighty.

"We're trying. I guess, it's all in God's hands," Kardashian told Australia's "Today Show" about having another baby.
