Kim Kardashian: The New Face of Millionaire Tax Initiative

Although she has been the face of diet plans, reality television and short-lived marriages recently, Kim Kardashian is now serving as a national example for the wealthy individuals who do not pay enough taxes.

Although Kardashian made millions more than the average Californian middle-class resident, she was reportedly only taxed one percent more than them. On the Millions Tax of 2012 initiative website, the reason for the Kardashian backlash is explained.

The Courage Campaign, an online organizing network for grassroots and netroots efforts for progressive change, is featuring a video explaining the severity of the matter on TaxKimK.com. The network explained its position on the matter.

“Kim Kardashian made more than $12 million in 2010, but she only paid 1% more in taxes than a middle-class Californian,” the network’s website states. “That's not OK, especially when budget cuts are decimating schools and critical programs for children, the elderly, and the disabled. It's exactly why Courage Campaign and two dozen other organizations are putting the Millionaires Tax of 2012 on the ballot.”

The video featured on the website opens up with Kardashian seemingly proving the point of those supporting the tax initiative.

“Being on TV has changed my life, because you get lots of free stuff,” Kardashian said in the video.

After reports arose that Kardashian was being paid to get married in a wedding that lasted 72 days, the video posed a question to all willing to take notice of the matter at hand.

“Don’t you think she could pay a little more?” the ad asks. “Especially to fund education and critical services?”
