Mariah Carey Weight Loss: 'I Got My Body Back' Through Jenny Craig

Singer Mariah Carey has lost over 60 pounds in just three months, through Jenny Craig’s weight-loss program, and hopes to inspire others to do the same.

“I’m proud of how hard I worked to get my body back… I had to do this for me,” said Carey who gave birth to twins Monroe and Moroccan six months ago. During her pregnancy, the Grammy-award winner had gestational diabetes as well as severe edema – swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissues.

Before the twins were born, Carey told USA Today she was “going through the pain and shame – everything that comes with weight gain.”

Describing the edema, Carey said it was “probably the most painful thing I went through during my pregnancy. My legs looked three times the size of what my legs do right now. I thought I would never be the same person again.”

The star began Jenny Craig’s regime in July when she was no longer breast-feeding the twins.

“I feel better in every way,” she said of her current health three months after the diet. “To me, it’s mind, body and soul. I was in a bad place physically during my pregnancy.”

She and husband Nick Cannon conceived the twins after a public struggle to get pregnant, and Carey commented on what a blessing the babies are, despite the challenging pregnancy.

Many different weight-loss companies contacted the singer about working with them, but the people she spoke to at Jenny Craig “had their own issues with weight,” and touched her.

Carey joins high-profile celebrities, such as Carrie Fisher, in using the lifestyle counseling and packaged food services of Jenny Craig.

Dana Fiser, CEO of Jenny, told USA Today that the company is thrilled to have Carey and that they hope to inspire younger women to get healthy.

“I worked like a fiend” said Carey, who reported that she does not rely on scales to indicate her weight, but uses her dress size. “Right now I am between a 4 or 6.” Carey is 5-foot-9.

In addition to becoming a Jenny Craig spokesperson, Carey has joined the company in support of the American Heart Association’s new initiative, “My Heart. My Life.”
