Media 'Railed Against Me for Giving Them the Truth About Their Sins,' Says Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson
Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, who became a target of gay rights advocates and triggered a national firestorm last fall for calling homosexuality a sin, defended his comments in a recent sermon in which he said people only got mad because he told them the truth.
In an impassioned Easter Sunday sermon on sin he delivered at Whites Ferry Road Church in his West Monroe, Louisiana, hometown, Robertson said all he did in the controversial GQ interview which sparked the firestorm was tell them the scripture and it was treated as personal opinion.
"The news media didn't even know it was a verse! They thought I was just mouthing off. 'Is homosexual behavior a sin?' The guy asked me. I said, 'Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don't be deceived,'" said Robertson at the cross-shaped pulpit.

"Neither the sexually immoral, nor the idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves, nor greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God," Roberts exclaimed to a clapping audience.
"They were mad at me,' he told the congregation. "You say, 'Why'd they get mad at you?' 'Cause instead of acknowledging their sin, like you had better do, they railed against me for giving them the truth about their sins. Don't deceive yourselves," he warned.
Robertson was quick to point out that everyone had sinned and Jesus came the first time over 2,000 years ago to bear those sins and offer a way to salvation. When he comes back the second time, he explained, Jesus won't be coming to bear sin but to "bring salvation to those who are waiting for it."
Robertson got suspended from "Duck Dynasty" last year for the GQ interview, in which he pointed out that the lines between right and wrong were being blurred.
"Everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong. Sin becomes fine," he said in the interview. "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men … Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers – they won't inherit the kingdom of God," he said.
