Michele Bachmann Endorses Romney; 'Easy Choice' vs. Obama

Following in the footsteps of her formal GOP rival Newt Gingrich, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has publicly endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president.

"I think for all of America, this is a very simple proposition this November – President Obama, President Mitt Romney. You decide. Very easy," said the former GOP presidential candidate.

Bachmann said she is planning to "lend my voice and my endorsement to Mitt Romney as our president and take the country back."

But there were times in 2011 when Bachmann felt she was the best person for the job in her quest for the Republican presidential nomination. She consistently hit Romney, comparing his Massachusetts health care program to Obamacare and saying Romney could not defeat Obama in November.

Bachmann ran a competitive race, winning the Iowa Straw Poll in August and forcing many of her Republican challengers – including Romney – to address social issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.

However, the momentum she carried into the late summer began to fade as Texas Gov. Rick Perry entered the GOP race and as she and her husband Marcus, had to deal with repeated attacks from homosexual activists.

After placing a distant fifth in the Iowa caucuses in early January, she decided to step aside, allowing former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, Gingrich, Texas Congressman Ron Paul and Romney to battle for the nomination.

"We must rally around the person our country, our party, and our people select to be the standard bearer. I will continue to fight," Bachmann said as she suspended her campaign in Iowa.

Yet now Bachmann has an opportunity to introduce Romney to a group he has struggled with – evangelical Christians. The two are making a joint appearance at a campaign stop in Virginia on Thursday.

In addition to her endorsement of Romney, Bachmann has also endorsed Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock who is running against long-time U.S. Senator Richard Lugar in next Tuesday's primary.
