Microsoft to Make Bid for Yahoo Again?
Rumors have surfaced that Microsoft is considering making a fresh bid for web portal Yahoo, prompting a massive 10 percent increase in shares for the touted company.
In February 2008, Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo for $44 billion, but was rebuffed by its founder Jerry Yang who believed the offer was hugely undervalued.
Since then the internet portal company has lost its value over the past year and is now valued at just $18billion.
Microsoft is not the only company looking to buy Yahoo. Rupert Murdoch News Corp, Providence Equity Partners, Hellman & Friedman and Silver Lake Partners are also potential buyers.
AOL is also considering a bid.
It has been reported that Microsoft may seek a partner to buy out Yahoo with.
Although Yahoo’s presence on the web is huge, it has failed to attract advertisers which opt with Google and Facebook.
Last month, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz was fired after continued poor performance on the stock markets.
Microsoft has not yet commented on the rumors.
