Motorola Droid Razr Release Date: UK Online Retailer Makes Smartphone Available

The Motorola Droid Razr smartphone is available at United Kingdom Online Retailer Clove.

This new smartphone goes for a retail price of $730 SIM-free. Clove was originally supposed to launch the Droid Razr on Nov. 1, but it pushed the release of the smartphone to this week instead.

"This is just a quick message to say that the first stock of the Motorola RAZR that was due to arrive tomorrow has been delayed until next week, week commencing the 7th November," said Clove. "This delay is quite common with brand new devices but we would have liked it if it had arrived as originally planned."

Clove stands as the sole cellphone retailer with the Droid Razr already in stock. Other retailers, such as the UK branch of Amazon and Expansys, will make the Droid Razr available on Nov. 11. The price for the device at these retailers costs more than Clove's at $761. Another retailer, Play, will sell the Droid Razr tomorrow for $761.

The Droid Razr will be Verizon Wireless' second dual-core 4G LTE smartphone that boasts more power, faster speeds, and a thinner form factor than most smartphones. It is touted as "the world's thinnest 4G smartphone."

It measures 7.1mm thick and sports a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch super AMOLED advanced QHD display, a 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p video and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Motorola Mobility President Sanjay Jha talked about the smartphone's syncing system, MotoCast: "You can stream content from your computer straight to your pocket (or purse) so your personal content is always within reach. And, because you don’t have to upload to a third-party site, you’re saving time while gaining peace of mind. That’s right - your files stay safe because they stay with you."

The smartphone will be available in the U.S. for $299 from Verizon Wireless with a two-year contract. The street date is Nov. 11.

The Inquirer gave a review on the Droid Razr: "Overall then, Motorola has produced a strong piece of kit with its revived Razr smartphone, and one that's worthy of the name. It could be just the phone the firm needs to turn heads in the UK market, where its Milestone devices failed to excite consumers, unlike in the US."

"Whether it's enough to compete with Apple or Samsung will remain to be seen, and its launch at the same time as Samsung releases a major product and as the iPhone 4S flies off the shelves could hurt its immediate prospects,” added The Inquirer.
