Prince William, Kate Middleton Move Into New Home

The royal couple officially moved into Kensington Palace after returning from their tour of California last week. Kensington Palace is the first official royal residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and was formerly the residence of Princess Diana.

Built in the 17th century for the Earl of Nottingham, Kensington Palace is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, and the property is set in Kensington Gardens, one of the Royal Parks of the city.

The palace is the official residence of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and is used on an unofficial basis by Prince Harry, as well as his cousin Zara Phillips.

The State Rooms are open to the public and managed by Historic Royal Palaces, an independent non-profit charity organization that does not receive public funds. Offices and private accommodation areas of the Palace are the responsibility of the Royal Household.

Prince William and Kate moved into a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment within the palace and spent their first few nights in the space last week, according to palace officials.

While Prince William continues his Royal Air Force training, the couple will be based out of Anglesey, North Wales.
