MTV's VMA 2011 Sets Good Sportsmanship Example
During the numerous acceptance speeches acknowledging fellow nominee’s talent, today’s celebrities, more ordinarily rebuked for a lack of morals and taste, have showed incredible respect and conduct toward one another at MTV’s 2011 VMA’s on Sunday.
After thanking God and Jesus, Justin Bieber showed his respect and appreciation for other artists nominated for “Best Male Video” in his acceptance speech.
“I want to say thank you to all the other nominees, they were amazing I’m a true fan of all of them, so I want to share this award with all of them, you guys are amazing,” said Bieber.
In his acceptance speech for Best Collaboration with Katy Perry, Kanye West first thanked God, then acknowledged Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Busta Rhymes, who were nominated for the award.
“Shout out to Busta, Chris Brown, and Wayne for having that joint right there I love you all.”
During the show, Lady Gaga delivered a warm tribute to Britney Spears, saying she was “incomparable.”
Gaga introduced performers who chronicled every iconic music video by Spears, and then presented the pop legend with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award - VMA’s lifetime achievement award.
Lady Gaga spent a lot of time on stage during the VMA’s, and also gave a warm introduction to Beyonce, saying the recently-announced expecting singer was “a real woman.”
“You know she is such a beautiful person, and I gotta tell you, I just adore her,” Gaga said, dressed as her alter ego, Jo Calderone.
During Beyonce’s VMA performance of “Love on Top,” the camera showed Adele, who had risen from her seat, singing the lyrics “Come on baby” and smiling.
More positivity and camaraderie was revealed during the VMAs pre-show, when rapper Wiz Khalifa confided in MTV News that he was a “huge Adele fan.” In interview with Digital Spy, Khalifa said that working with the British singer would be something he is very interested in.
Adele’s performance of “Someone Like You” has been hailed the saving grace of the entire awards show, and the singer received a standing ovation as she closed the number.
