Nation's Capital Approves 'Choose Life' License Plate

A pro-life license plate has been approved for use in the nation's capital and has been made available for drivers to purchase.

The "Choose Life" plate was made available for purchase on Wednesday by The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Choose Life plate, which has been approved in various states across the country, was submitted for consideration to the D.C. DMV by The Children First Foundation.

Elizabeth Rex, president of The Children First Foundation, told The Christian Post that the design for the license plate was submitted and approved during the summer.

"They said it would take six to eight weeks to manufacture the plate and then they notified us on Tuesday this week that it's ready," said Rex.

"It's really a win-win for the state. It raises revenue, and license plates are very popular with organizations and so everyone benefits."

Rex also told CP that the process "went very smoothly," as the pro-life group received "very professional" treatment and no resistance or opposition from the D.C. DMV.

"We're very grateful that we were able to get a license plate in D.C.," said Rex, adding that she hoped the cultural impact of the plate "will be very positive."

"I really believe that our nation wants to find a solution and I believe adoption is a very important part of putting children first."

Rex also told CP that she felt the Choose Life license plate showcased a decision about pregnancy that should transcend the usual sides of the abortion debate.

"Adoption is a pro-life choice that all Americans can support. It's a very important choice for women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy or an unwanted pregnancy or even an unwanted newborn," said Rex.

"I'm hoping that everyone, no matter whether they consider themselves to be pro-life or pro-choice, we can all support a pro-life choice."

The Children First Foundation was founded in 2001 by Rex and her husband. The group has successfully gotten Choose Life plates approved in other states, including New Jersey and New York.
