New TLC Show: 'All American Muslim' Promises Rarely Seen Perspective

Cable network TLC (The Learning Channel), is introducing a brand new reality show that looks into the rarely seen lives of Muslims living in the U.S. called "All-American Muslim."

The show will feature five American Muslim families from Dearborn, MI, and will show them in their day to day lives and some of the struggles they face because of their religion.

One of the members of the Muslim families says, “Being in Dearborn has allowed us to practice our faith without losing our sense of American patriotism.”

Dearborn has become almost a safe haven for American Muslim Americans as it houses one of the biggest concentrated populations of people of the Islamic faith in the country. The city also contains the largest mosque in the U.S. as well, but the families say things have become increasingly difficult since 9-11.

“After 9-11, the environment was a bit more hostile,” says one person. “They say we’re Muslim we’re more barbaric, terrorists,” added another.

The families on the show insist they are just like everyone else, “I’ve been in law enforcement for 19 years. I really am American, there are no ifs ands or buts about it,” one of the cast members says.

The show includes a variety of professions including a football coach, cop, and a woman who runs a club.

"The most important things are my family and coaching football," says the coach.

The show will run as an eight part series and focus on the customs, celebrations and problems Muslim's face in and outside of their communities.

The trailer says Dearborn, "Is like a whole other world," and shows the families praying and worshipping throughout their day.

The show will premiere on Sunday Nov. 13 at 10/9c on TLC.
