Nicolas Cage Prefers Channeling Energy Over Acting

Nicolas Cage doesn't like to act. He would rather become the character than pretend he is the character. And Nic has discovered the craft of channeling energy as a means to reach for that goal.

In an "Exclusive Nicolas Cage Webchat," Nic stated: "Acting implies lying in some way - Oliver said as much in his autobiography, and I don't want to lie. Thankfully Sean Penn said that Nicolas Cage is no longer an actor, and that's what I want. I want to find a way to make it more truthful."

In another interview, Cage stated, "I had realized that I'd developed my own style and process and school of acting which is called Nouveau Shamanic." A "shaman" is "a person who acts as intermediary between the natural and supernatural worlds, using magic to control spiritual forces."

In his webchat, Cage explained some of the bizarre techniques he has used to tap into supernatural power. He even described the residual effect it had on him after he finished his work on the film, "Ghost Rider." He went to a party where things got weird. "I had not entirely let go of whatever magic I had been channeling," Cage said, "and all hell broke lose." In other words, the energy he had been channeling was still present in his system.

Cage described another experience while filming "Ghost Rider" in Transylvania, Romania. "I went up to Dracula's castle...the ruins up in the mountains and I stayed the night. I just had to channel the energy, and it was pretty spooky up there."

I will say this much for Nic; he is certainly dedicated to his craft. And he is hungry for supernatural power and authenticity in his work. Nicolas Cage definitely prefers channeling energy over acting.

Interestingly, Christianity provides followers of Christ with an experience that can be compared to channeling energy. With Christianity however, the energy and power come from the Holy Spirit and the presence of Jesus Christ. You see, there is the power of God, and then there is other spiritual energy which seeks to compete with God's power.

Anyone can channel energy if he uses the right techniques. But one should be extremely careful when entering the realm of the supernatural. The energy of a shaman is altogether different than the power of God. And it's not only actors who have learned about channeling mysterious energy. Musicians, athletes, and plenty of others have attempted to channel unknown supernatural energy for their own purposes.

One might be inclined to commend Nicolas Cage for wanting to make his craft "more truthful." However, just because an experience is authentic and supernatural doesn't assure that it originates from a power source which is truthful. Do you see the distinction? In the spiritual world, as in the natural world, there is truth and there is falsehood. There is power that comes from God, and there is energy which comes from a dark place. All energy is not created equal. And all energy does not produce the same fruit.

This is why the experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ is so far superior to the experience of channeling unknown energy. One comes from God, while the other produces an addiction to a seductive yet harmful source of power.

In other words, an actor who seeks to be "more truthful" by channeling energy from a dark source, will in the end be led away from what is true and from what ultimately satisfies the soul. A spiritual experience can be genuine, but still not be "true" in the ultimate sense of the word.

If Nic Cage wants to receive supernatural power which flows from the truth, he will need to experience the spiritual birth which the Holy Spirit brings about within a human soul. This happens as a person turns away from sin and trusts Christ for salvation. That's a power encounter which changes you for the better, and forever.

Jesus will always be "the Way, the Truth, and the Life." (John 14:6) And He wasn't acting. God decided to provide man with the ultimate source of spiritual strength and forgiveness. It's the only safe approach when entering the realm of the supernatural, and it results in a loving relationship with the living God. Hollywood movies cannot even come close to that real life relationship.

No wonder Nicolas Cage prefers "being" over pretending and acting. The real world is far more fulfilling, especially once you start moving in the supernatural grace of God.
