Horror as Terrorists Massacre Kids at Norway Youth Camp
Hours after a bomb exploded in Oslo City center in Norway, another terror attack has taken place as scores of teenagers were gunned down at a youth camp 20 miles away.
Broadcaster Sky News is reporting that nine or 10 people were killed by a gunman at a youth camp located in Utoya Island. The camp was housed in the youth wing of Norway’s Labor Party where an estimated 600 people were in attendance, according to MarketWatch reports.
Sveining Sponheim, Oslo deputy police chief, has said that all of those found dead were minors, under the age of 18.
"The number is 10, possibly nine," Sponheim said. "That's what we know so far."
Andre Scheie witnessed the shooting that took place and spoke with Norway’s NRK TV channel. Scheie described seeing bodies on the shore of Utoya Island.
"There are very many dead by the shore ... there are about 20-25 dead," he told NRK TV.
Emilie Bersaas, a youth who attended the Utoya camp on Friday, described the experience to Sky News. She said, "At one point the shooting was very, very close (to) the building, I think actually it actually hit the building one time, and the people in the next room screamed very loud.
"I laid under the bed for two hours and then the police smashed a window and came in. It seems kind of unreal, especially in Norway. This is not something that could happen here, this is something you hear about happening in the U.S."
A suspect has been apprehended by Norwegian police, and he reportedly has stated that the Oslo bombing and Utoya Island shooting are connected. Knut Storberget, Norway’s Justice Minister, confirmed that the shooter was a Norwegian man, according to Norway’s TV2.
