Obamas, Doug Emhoff extol Kamala Harris as source of hope, compassion

'One of those black jobs'

Former first lady Michelle Obama delivered a speech that tore into Trump and presented Harris as a source of hope reminiscent of what her husband offered.

"Something wonderfully magical is in the air, isn’t it?" she said. "A familiar feeling that’s been buried too deep for too long."

"You know what I’m talking about? It’s the contagious power of hope! America, hope is making a comeback."

Obama also prompted applause when she suggested that Trump is a racist who tried to turn the public against her and her husband because they are black.

"For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us," she said. "See, his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, highly educated, successful people who happen to be black."

"I want to know — I want to know — who’s going to tell him, who’s going to tell him, that the job he is currently seeking might just be one of those black jobs?"

The audience erupted at her comment, which was in reference to Trump recently claiming that illegal immigrants are taking "black jobs."

"It’s his same old con. His same old con. Doubling down on ugly, misogynistic, racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and solutions that will actually make people’s lives better," she added.

Obama also accused Trump of "taking away our freedom to control our bodies," trying to ban books, and "demonizing our children for being who they are and loving who they love."
