Paula Deen's Firing Makes Her Part of an Exclusive, Yet Undesirable, Club

Paula Deen was let go by The Food Network this past Friday, June 21, due to her admitting to making racial slurs. Deen is not the first celebrity to be fired for inappropriate, offensive behavior. Deen joins the ranks of other infamous celebrities as a member of an exclusive, yet undesirable, club.

In 2011, the insurance company Aflac fried Gilbert Gottfried after his many numerous insensitive jokes about the devastating tsunami in Japan. Gottfried later released an apology saying, "I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by my attempt at humor regarding the tragedy in Japan." But it wasn't enough for the insurance giant, who cut ties with Gottfried after 10 years of using him for their commercials.

Also in 2011, actor Charlie Sheen was fired from the hit CBS show "Two and a Half Men." Sheen went on a tirade of public and inappropriate behavior back in 2011. Warner Brothers released a statement at the time explaining their decision.

"There is ample evidence supporting Warner Bros. reasonable good faith opinion that Mr. Sheen has committed felony offenses involving moral turpitude (including but not limited to furnishing of cocaine to others as part of the self-destructive lifestyle he has described publically," the statement read.

Back in 2009, CBS fired radio show host Don Imus after his outburst of racial slurs regarding the Rutgers women's basketball team. President and CEO of CBS Leslie Moonves announced the decision, saying it was particularly offensive to attack young women.

"There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society," Moonves said.

With the Food Network's firing of the celebrity chef, Paula Deen joins the ranks of Gottfried, Sheen, and Imus, in the infamous club of celebrities fired for inappropriate and offensive comments and behavior.
