President Obama Calls Sandra Fluke After Rush Limbaugh's 'Prostitute' Comment (VIDEO)
Georgetown University student, Sandra Fluke, received a phone call from President Obama who offered his support following Rush Limbaugh's verbal attack after she had testified at a Congressional hearing about the need for contraception coverage.
Limbaugh, a controversial and conservative radio host, called the law student a "prostitute" and a "slut" after she advocated that national healthcare coverage should include birth control for women, and his words angered a number of critics which prompted the call from Obama.
"[Obama] encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women. What was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud and that meant a lot because Rush Limbaugh questioned whether or not my family would be proud of me so I just appreciated that very much," an emotional Fluke said in an Interview with Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC.

"There have been some highs and some lows, yes. So it's been quite a journey and I'm just happy that what seems to be happening in the process is that America is hearing the voices of the women affected by lack of contraception coverage and who will benefit from this policy and that's what really most important to me," she added.
Although Fluke was initially barred from testifying during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on Obama's contraception mandate on Feb. 16, she was later permitted on Thursday, Feb. 23 at another hearing where she advocated for contraception coverage.
Limbaugh immediately took to his radio program "The Rush Limbaugh Show," where he proceeded to insult Fluke by trying to associate her viewpoints with what he believes are her sexual habits.
"What does it say about the college co-ed Sandra Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex," Limbaugh blasted to his show's listeners.
Fluke was outraged by his remarks but thanked the president of Georgetown, a renowned Catholic university, who condemned Limbaugh's verbal attacks.
"The support of the law school faculty as well as the president of the university has been very helpful and I think it's really an example of what kind of model we should look to in our national discourse because clearly the president of the university and I disagree about the issues but we're both able to handle this in a civil manner," Fluke said.
