"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss expressed her grief on Instagram on Tuesday, following the unexpected death of her mother-in-law Sharon.

The music veteran remembered her mother-in-law, widely known as "Miss Sharon," as a "young spirit" and also revealed the pain that she feels for her husband of less than a year, Todd Tucker.

Sharon reportedly suffered a stroke in New York on Monday, prompting Tucker to fly there from Atlanta. She was reportedly unconscious upon her son's arrival but passed away the following day.

"Today has been a tough day. Our family has suffered a terrible loss. Sharon was the best mother in-law! She was fun, energetic, loving, & caring," Burruss wrote in an Instagram tribute. "... She still had a young spirit. It's unbelievable that she's gone. I'm so sad for @todd167 because they were so close ... I'm still in shock."

Sharon made a number of appearances on "RHOA" season 6 where she often clashed with Burruss' mother, Mama Joyce. Despite their past differences, both families came together for Burruss' April wedding to Tucker without incident.

Tucker, who is understandably shattered, also expressed grief on Instagram but said he believes his mother is in a better place.

"Today I lost my partner, my ride or die my best friend! I don't know what to do? I'm lost! My heart hurts so much!" Tucker wrote alongside a photo of himself with Sharon. "She was a fighter, a warrior for her son! It was me and her against the world! She's in a better place!! Mom I love you to death! Rest in peace!"

Burruss, who released her gospel song "Prayed Up" featuring pastor and gospel singer Marvin Sapp earlier this year, has suffered a number of tragic losses in recent years. In 2011 Ashley Jewell, 15, who was the daughter of her late fiance, A.J. Jewell, died during a shooting less than two years after A.J.'s passing.

The Bravo TV star's "RHOA" costars sent their condolences on social networking site Twitter.

"My condolences go out to @Kandi and Todd for their loss. She was a sweet woman who was always so nice to me. Saying a prayer for the family," Kenya Moore tweeted.

"My prayers are with The Tucker family tonight! Todd your Mother Miss Sharon was a beautiful soul & so loving she will be missed. Love you guys? @Todd167 @kandiburruss #RIP Miss Sharon," Porsha Williams wrote.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of @todd167 mother Sharon untimely passing ... I will truly miss her. @todd167 may the comfort of God be with you and your family during this difficult time … ," Cynthia Bailey wrote.

"Prayers up to the family of @Todd167 and @Kandi condolences to their losses. RIP Ms Sharon," Claudia Jordan tweeted.

"My condolences to @todd167 and @kandiburruss for your loss. Haven't gotten to know you too closely, but I do know that loss. My prayers are with you and your family," Demetria McKinney wrote.
