Sage Stallone's Funeral to Be Picketed by Westboro Church
Just hours after the announcement that Sage Stallone, son of Sylvester Stallone, had died, a leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, a group known for protesting military funerals, announced on Twitter that the controversial sect will picket Sage's funeral.
"Thrice-married rebel taught his son to mock God. #picketfuneral MT@digitalspy: Sylvester Stallone's son Sage Stallone found dead, aged 36," Margie Phelps wrote on Twitter.
Margie is the daughter of Fred Phelps, who is the widely criticized leader of the Westboro for the anti-gay agenda, which extended to celebrities, military veterans, among others. As she knew about Sage's death she wrote, "Adulterous dad brought wrath of God on son. #BloodOnDadsHands#picketfuneral #woe MT @GlobalGrind: Sylvester Stallone son, Sage, dead at 36."
On Twitter, she told Sage's father, Sylvester Stallone, to mourn for his son's sins. "Chance to redeem yourself with God. Tell @TheSlyStallone to mourn for his sins, not pimp out son's dead body to more proud sin!"
Sage Stallone's funeral is scheduled to take place Saturday July 21 in a private service attending by just family and close friends.
Sage was found dead in his home in Los Angeles Friday July 13 by an employee and a relative. The police found prescription bottles in the house where his body was found. According to TMZ website, the death was the result of an overdose of an unidentified type of pill, but the official cause has not been confirmed. Police believe it was not a suicide, as Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter reported and no suicide note was found.
Publicist Michelle Bega said in a statement Sylvester Stallone is devastated. "His compassion and thoughts are with Sage's mother, Sasha."
Sage, 36-year-old, was the first of two sons Stallone had with first wife, Sasha Czack. He was engaged to be married and was recently working on numerous film projects. Sage made his acting debut in 1990's "Rocky V" with his father and later appeared at "Daylight" in 1996.
