Samsung Galaxy S2 Release Date: Smartphone Sells for Just $2

In an effort to gain some momentum before Apple releases its highly anticipated iPhone 4S, Samsung is now offering its Galaxy S2 smartphone in Sydney, Australia for $2.

The Korea-based electronics company recently opened a temporary retail outlet or “Pop Up Shop” in that area where Samsung is selling the Galaxy S2 for just $2 to the first 10 customers who purchase the device every day until Friday.

The Galaxy S2 is sold in Australia for more than $800 (about $500 contract free in the United States), so customers have been taking advantage of the offer and lining up outside this Samsung “Pop Up Shop” every morning hoping to get their hands on the cheap smartphone.

Another interesting fact about this “Pop Up Shop” is its convenient location two doors down from Apple’s flagship retail store in Sydney, noted the Sydney Morning Herald.

Apple’s George Street location in Sydney will be one of the first stores in the world to begin selling the iPhone 4S on Friday.

Australians will be able to purchase the new device around 5 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday.

U.S. residents will have to wait until the next morning.

The Samsung temporary retail location currently has more people waiting outside than Apple’s Sydney store.

But the closer it gets to the iPhone 4S launch, the more likely the line in front of Apple’s store will grow much larger.

Samsung’s Galaxy S2 was deemed the “iPhone Killer” by the company and has already enjoyed much success stirring up quite a buzz with its beefed up hardware.

The smartphone is available in the U.S. on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Samsung is planning to release another high-end smartphone in the near future with its Nexus Prime handset.
