Scarlett Johansson to Play 'Psycho' Star

Scarlett Johansson has been confirmed to play actress Janet Leigh in the upcoming film "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho."

The film chronicles the legendary director Hitchcock and his horror classic in which Leigh is viciously murdered in the famous shower scene. "Psycho" was based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Stephen Rebello.

Johansson will portray Leigh, who became famous after the chilling shower scene in "Psycho."

The 27-year-old actress will be joined by cast members Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren who will play Hitchcock and his wife.

The upcoming film will follow the director's struggles to make "Psycho" in the 1960's, which became one of the most influential films of all time.

British actor James D'Arcy was also cast in "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" as Anthony Perkins, according to Variety.

It is not the first time D'Arcy will have worked with the story: he played the protagonist Norman Bates in Hitchcock's thriller.

"Making of Psycho" will be directed by journalist and filmier Sacha Gervasi who also helmed 2008's "Anvil! The Story of Anvil."

John J. McLaughlin, who penned Natalie Portman's psychological thriller "Black Swan," wrote the screenplay.

Many reports on the upcoming film speculate that the title "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" will likely change ahead of its premiere. It is expected in theaters sometime next year.

Johansson, or ScarJo as the media often refers to her, has appeared films such as "The Avengers" and "The Girl with a Pearl Earring."

The actress is no stranger to the limelight, but has stated that she has no interest in today's age of social media.

"I don't have a Facebook or a Twitter account, and I don't know how I feel about this idea of, 'Now, I'm eating dingier, and I want everyone to know that I'm having dinner at this time,' or 'I just mailed a letter and dropped off my kids,'" explained the actress speaking to Interview magazine late last year.

"That, to me, is a very strange phenomenon. I can't think of anything I'd rather do less than have to continuously share details of my everyday life," added Johansson. Privacy became an even greater concern of the Johansson's after she became involved in a phone-hacking scandal last year where nude photos of the actress were leaked to the internet. The person responsible for the hacking was Christopher Chaney, 35, of Jacksonville, Fla.

According to the FBI, he did it for thrill. Other celebrities who were victimized in the hacking scandal included Paris Hilton, Mila Kunis, Ali Larter, Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez, and many more.
