Selena Gomez Tour Cancellation Sparks 'Lupus' Reports

Selena Gomez recently insisted that she is fine despite abruptly canceling the Australian leg of her "Stars Dance" tour, however a new report claims the singer may be suffering from lupus.

The "Come & Get It" singer, 21, was scheduled to perform in Asia and Australia after the New Year, but on Dec. 16, she announced that she was canceling her shows to spend time focusing on herself. Gomez kicked off her world tour in August, it was set to wrap up in Melbourne, Australia in February.

Insiders claim that the real reason behind the pop star's tour cancellation relates to her health. She reportedly suffered flares, facial swelling and extreme fatigue stemming from lupus, according to PopDust.com.

"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her lupus is really catching up with her right now," a source told PopDust. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause damage and severe pain to any part of the body. It can also cause headaches, fever, rashes and memory loss.

The former Disney star expressed her heartfelt disappointment in a statement released to fans after she announced her tour cancellation. "Stars Dance" is Gomez's first ever solo world tour.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them. But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend time on myself in order to be the best person I can be," Gomez said in a statement.

"To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me," she added.

Gomez is yet to publicly address reports of health woes, but last week a report suggested her split from Justin Bieber may have caused the tour cancellation. Insiders claimed the singer was still emotionally struggling after ending her two-year relationship with Bieber, 19, in May however it is unclear whether there is any truth to these reports.

Another source insisted that Gomez's hectic work scheduled was to blame and that she was doing well.

"She's been working non-stop for six years. She hit a wall. She wants to spend time with her family, especially for the holidays," a source told E! news. "Selena is OK. She just realized it was time to take a break for herself."

Celebrities who have have suffered from lupus include Nick Cannon, Toni Braxton and Seal.
