The player is set to become a Valencia player until June 30, 2013 for $12 million.

"I'm proud to go there, it is where I wanted to play. It's a great club that is fighting at the top level every year nationally and internationally,” Canales told the Valencia website.

He added, “It is an important step for me and will allow me to continue to move forward. Valencia has an excellent squad.”

Sergio Canales is one player who is not afraid to express his faith publicly, and in this was has followed the example set by evangelical soccer player Kaka, and a number of the Brazilian players.

In particular on Twitter Canales has not been shy to write about his faith in God.

"Commend yourself to God from the heart, which often tend to pour out His mercies ....," recommended the Spaniard on his twitter account.

The midfielder is currently representing Spain at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

According to the agreement, Valencia will pay his wages for the two seasons and, at the end of each campaign, it will have a Euro 12 million ($17M) option to buy him outright.

The term of the contract also provides that the player will not play against his ultimate owners, Real Madrid.
