"Breaking Dawn: Part One" is the first installment of two based on the final chapter of the popular book franchise.

"That franchise and that character mean so much to me. I mean coming to an end is a very bittersweet feeling. But yes, absolutely, as an actor I want to be able to challenge myself to a wide variety of roles," he said.

Lautner said fans "will definitely be crying" and he was "definitely holding back" the tears himself.

In the meantime, fans of Lautner can catch him in the starring role of his newest action/thriller "Abduction," in theaters now.

"'Abduction' couldn't be more different than Jacob and Twilight and that's one of the major reasons I was attracted to this. So yeah, it was great to try something new and I had an amazing time with it," he said.

The film also stars veteran actress Sigourney Weaver, and relative newcomer, Lily Collins, daughter of British superstar Phil Collins, who has been romantically linked to Lautner.

“I just hope everyone goes and sees the movie and focuses on the acting. He's a great young man," Collins said.
