Taylor Swift Contributes Music to 'The Hunger Games' Movie

"Safe & Sound," the first single released by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars, has become iTunes’ No. 1 selling song on Dec. 23.

The single, produced by T Bone Burnett, is from a compilation album being put together for "The Hunger Games" movie, which is slated for release March 23, 2012.

The song was released and promoted through Swift's Twitter handle, and made it into the iTunes top 10 within 12 hours. #Safeandsound was trending on Twitter directly because of Swift's tweets.

A press release by Lionsgate said the album would feature new music by each of these artists and is based off of the themes of the film. It will be released prior to the movie.

The album will also feature Arcade Fire and The Decemberists. Their songs are called, "Horn of Plenty" and "One Engine," respectably.

"We are thrilled to have such a hauntingly beautiful companion album taking shape– T Bone is working with these artists to create something truly incredible and unique that fits perfectly with the powerful themes of the books and the film," said Joe Drake, of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

President and CEO Monte Lipman of Universal Republic said, "THE HUNGER GAMES is a groundbreaking series that is nothing short of brilliant. Universal Republic is delighted to forge a creative alliance with Lionsgate to participate in this franchise's undeniable legacy."

Recently Swift and American Greetings had teamed up to spread Christmas cheer through a serious of special cards and gifts in promotion on Facebook and Cardstore.com.

The cards featured Swift's personal touch and came in 13 different designs. The selling point of the cards was Swift's signature style with her writing, beautiful pictures, and happy designs, according to a press release from the American Greetings Corporation.

Consumers could also customize their own cards with personal messages and photos, and a signature.

American Greetings also ran a special sweepstakes called "13 Days of Taylor," which saw giveaways inspired by the singer’s love for the Christmas season. The sweepstakes ran from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12.

"The American Greetings 13 Days of Taylor sweepstakes is the perfect way to celebrate a season that Taylor absolutely loves in a way that commemorates the small moments and cherished memories that shape her holiday cards," said Lindsay Kalback, from the Taylor Swift brand management team at American Greetings.
