Tim Tebow Remains Positive, Humble Despite Broadway Joe Namath 'Distraction' Comments

Tim Tebow has remained humble and positive about his recent trade to the New York Jets, despite comments from Hall-of-Fame quarterback, "Broadway Joe" Namath, who has suggested Tebow could prove a "distraction" for the other players.

Tebow, 24, who was traded from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets on Wednesday, spoke with ESPN about his long wait to find out where he would play next season. "I just kept waiting and watching and figuring it out like everybody else," Tebow explained. "It's (been) an interesting day getting up this morning and hearing that it's finalized, you know I'm excited about that. Then, hearing there's some issues with it...but yea I'm excited to be a Jet at the end of the day, it's exciting."

Tebow has said he is looking forward to meeting the Jets players and the new challenge. "I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be a Jet. I'm looking forward to my time getting in there and meeting everyone," Tebow said. "I'm very thankful for the opportunity to play for such a great organization."

Despite the media speculation surrounding what kind of relationship Tebow might develop with the Jets' incumbent starting QB, Mark Sanchez, the 24-year-old former Broncos starter spoke humbly of his respect for Sanchez and the "blessing" of knowing him.

"We talked had a chance to catch up a little bit and had a great conversation," Tebow said. "We've been blessed to get to know each other over the last few years. I definitely have a lot of respect for him."

However, not everyone is looking at Tebow's recent trade in a positive light. Hall-of-Fame quarterback, Joe Namath also known as "Broadway Joe," questioned whether the Jets would be able to play well with Tebow on the team. Namath, who helped the Jets win their last title in 1969, said the addition of Tebow may distract players.

"I talk about Sanchez and the other players. You can't help but like Tim Tebow, I'm sure all the guys do but this is going to be a tremendous amount of distraction for the players," Namath said in a Yahoo! Sports report. "They're supposed to handle it. But at this stage I'm hoping it will work out positively for the teams, the fans. I know all the fans want to do is win and I'm not sure that is always the bottom-line with how the Jets operate."

However, Tebow, as usual, has continued to express a positive attitude, "It's my dream and passion to help them out and I'm very thankful that they believed in me and stuck with me through this whole crazy process today."
