Tim Tebow Tweets Proverbs Message in Wake of Jets Release

NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, now formerly of the New York Jets, has tweeted a passage from Proverbs about trusting God in the wake of his release from the sports franchise.

"Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight," reads Tebow's only comment about the release so far.

On Monday, the 25-year-old star, who gained fame for his open displays of his Christian faith on and off the field, found out that the Jets will no longer be using his services.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," said head coach Rex Ryan in a statement. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."

The quarterback only made a few appearances for the Jets after signing from the Denver Broncos last March, and had been pushed to a third-choice starter for the team.

Tebow remained upbeat despite his quiet season for the Jets, telling ESPN at the end of the campaign:

"I felt like it was a learning opportunity for me. There was a lot that I'll take from it. There's a lot that I learned and there are lot of relationships that I've built, so I know that it happened for a reason."

As an outspoken Christian sports figure, Tebow has been receiving a lot of support from fans since news of his release came out Monday morning.

"You are a good man Tim and a true role model for young athletes these days (which is hard to find). Keep preaching the word of God no matter what anyone says!" commented one fan on Tebow's Facebook page.

"When a door shuts, a better opportunity awaits you. Best of luck in the future Tim. God Bless!" added another.
