Timberlake Spears Insult Reports Slammed

Justin Timberlake has shut down reports that indicated he had called ex-girlfriend Britney Spears a derogatory name.

Timberlake began dating Spears in early 1999 when their relationship became very high profile. The pair split in March 2002, resulting in Timberlake's hit song "Cry Me A River," said to be inspired by Spears.

During a pre-Super Bowl event in New Orleans on Saturday, Timberlake made comments to the crowd that created a buzz just before singing the aforementioned famous break up ballad.

"Sometimes in life, you think you found the one, but then one day you find out that she was just some b----," said Timberlake before singing "Cry Me A River," according to E! News.

Many interpreted the comment as disparaging toward Spears, who allegedly inspired the track, but Timberlake took to Twitter to clarify.

"Ok. I see you," started the "Suit and Tie" singer. "Wouldn't disprespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyB---- I do love saying that though * with accent * #Respect," paying homage to Spears' song "Gimme More."

Timberlake penned "Cry Me A River" after Spears supposedly cheated on him with her choreographer, Wade Robson, according to Entertainment Tonight. Further prompting beliefs that the Grammy Award-winning song was about Spears, the accompanying video featured a Spears look-alike.

Despite the rumors about bad-mouthing Spears, Timberlake went on to perform three brand-new tracks from his upcoming album "The 20/20 Experience" during the event Saturday. Songs included "Suit and Tie" which features Jay-Z, "Little Pusher Love Girl," and "That Girl."

It was the former N'Sync singer's first concert in five years. The new album hits stores on March 19.

Timberlake will perform again this Sunday at the Grammy Awards, in addition to the Brit Awards on Feb. 20 at London's O2 arena, according to MTV News.

Meanwhile, Timberlake recently wed actress Jessica Biel in Italy on Oct. 19, 2012.
