Reports about the shooter’s political background suggest that Crooks had a mixed set of political beliefs.

As The New York Times reported Sunday, investigators have analyzed the shooter’s online presence, but no reports have surfaced indicating whether Crooks was a firm Republican or Democrat.

The Times reported that Crooks’ parents were registered as Democrat and Libertarian, however.

According to a voter registration record, Crooks was a registered Republican. But federal campaign finance records also show that he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project. Crooks donated to the group via the Democratic donation platform Act Blue in January 2021, according to the Times.
