2. Meeting with Macron
Before meeting with Zelensky on Friday, Trump also met in the Oval Office with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict was front and center during their discussion, with Macron at one point correcting Trump about Europe's financial contributions to Ukraine. Macron clarified that 60% of the aid Europe gave to Ukraine was grants and loans that are not repayable, as Trump claimed.

Macron's meeting with Trump in the Oval Office was nevertheless warm and replete with physical contact such as frequent handshakes and friendly taps on the shoulder or thigh.
The two also reminisced about the historic reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral last December, which Trump attended shortly after winning the U.S. presidential election.
