Tsarnaev Claims Innocence, Mother Says He's 'Being Driven Crazy'

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is walking and talking after spending several weeks in a hospital. The Boston bombing suspect recently spoke with his mother and told her that he and his late brother, Tamerlan, were innocent.

"He didn't hold back his emotions either, as if he were screaming to the whole world: 'What is this? What's happening?'" Tsarnaev's mother, Zubeidat told the Associated Press.

She said that her son sounded somewhat confused as to the allegations being made about his involvement in the April 15 Boston bombings that killed three people and wounded over 260.

"I could just feel that he was being driven crazy by the unfairness that happened to us, that they killed our innocent Tamerlan.

Tamerlan was killed in a shoot-out with police soon after the bombings occurred. Tsarnaev managed to elude police and hid out in a boat while the police combed the entire area. A massive manhunt ensued and Boston residents were forced to remain inside their homes while the search continued. Finally, police found him in the boat and managed to take him into custody, but he was seriously injured and required immediate hospitalization.

He cooperated with police in the beginning and left a note in the boat he was hiding in. Police said he took responsibility for the bombings and called the Boston victims "collateral damage" in the same way that Muslims had been killed in the American-led wars.

"When you attack one Muslim, you attack all Muslims," Tsarnaev wrote.

His parents maintain hope that their surviving son will be set free and found innocent of the crimes he has been accused of.

"All I can do is pray to God and hope that one day fairness will win out, our children will be cleared and we will at least get Dzhokhar back, crippled, but at least alive," his father, Anzor, told the AP.

Tsarnaev remains in the hospital unit of a prison and is heavily guarded.
