Tsarnaev's Wife Refuses to Talk to Feds, Lawyer Says She's Still in Mourning

Reports are indicating that Tamerlan Tsarnaev's wife is not yet ready to talk with federal investigators regarding what she knew about her husband's intentions and actions leading up to the Boston bombing.

Katherine Russell Tsarnaev's attorney, Amato DeLuca, previously revealed in April that Tsarnaev did not speak to federal officials when they visited her parents' home in North Kingstown, R.I.

"I spoke to them, and that's all I can say right now," DeLuca told the Associated Press at the time. "We're deciding what we want to do and how we want to approach this."

But that was two weeks ago, and her lawyer confirms that Tsarnaev's wife is still not yet ready to talk with investigators as she continues to mourn her husband's death and plan for his funeral.

DeLuca says his client knew "nothing about [the Boston bombings] at any time" and explains that the family is coping with the aftermath of the shocking events in the weeks following the attack.

"The whole family is a mess, to put it bluntly. They're very distraught. They're upset … Their lives have been unalterably changed. They're upset because of what happened, the people that were injured, that were killed. It's an awful, terrible thing," Deluca said.

Soon after the Tsarnaevs were revealed to be prime suspects in the attack, DeLuca released a statement on behalf of Katherine Russell Tsarnaev and her family, saying:

"The reports of involvement by her husband and brother-in-law came as an absolute shock to them all. As a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, Katie deeply mourns the pain and loss to innocent victims - students, law enforcement, families and our community."

Russell's parents- Judith, who is a nurse, and Warren, who is a physician- issued a statement following the horrific Boston terror attacks after the suspects were identified.

"Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot's Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted," they said.
