Wes Welker's Wife Anna Welker Apologizes to Ray Lewis for 'Role Model' Comments

Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens earned their spot in the Super Bowl at the weekend, but their achievement resulted in a tirade followed by an apology from the wife of New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker.

Anna Burns Welker, the wife of the Patriots receiver, took to her personal Facebook page to bash Lewis after her husband's team lost against the Ravens in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

"Proud of my husband and the Pats," Welker wrote Sunday night on her Facebook page. "By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis' Wikipedia page. (Six) kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!"

After Mrs. Welker's Facebook post caught the attention of a number of people who lashed out at her response to the loss, she decided to offer an apology for her actions.

"I'm deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me," Mrs. Welker said in a Larry Brown Sports report. "My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday's game."

The wife of the Patriots wide receiver went on to blame her actions on the frustration she felt for her husband and his team falling short of a Super Bowl appearance.

"It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams," she said.

Welker's wife is not the first to sound off after her husband's loss in the playoffs. After the Patriots lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl last year, Tom Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen, caused controversy after blaming the defeat on the team's receivers.

"You (have) to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball," Bundchen was overheard saying, according to a CBS report. "My husband cannot (bleeping) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

After Anna Welker's most recent comment, some people took to Twitter to question the wives of the Patriots players.

"What is it about the Pats wives," one person questioned.

Another person had a suggestion for the wives of the organization.

"Somebody needs to remind the wives of Patriots players to stay off social media during playoff games. #Brady #Welker," the person tweeted.
