Westboro Endorses 'Antichrist' Obama Over 'False Christian' GOP Candidates

A member of Westboro Baptist Church, famous for preaching a fiery gospel that claims all those deemed "sinners" would go to hell, has said that even President Barack Obama would be a better choice in the 2012 presidential elections than the Republican candidates.

Timothy Phelps, the youngest son of the Baptist pastor who leads the Topeka, Kan. church, explained in an interview with The Huffington Post why he would rather have Obama as president than any of the other choices.

Commenting on Newt Gingrich’s surprising victory in the South Carolina primary, Phelps described the former House Speaker as a “liar, thief, and adulterer.”

In regards to the other candidates, the Westboro Baptist Church member said: “These people claim to be Christian, New Gingrich and Mitt Romney and some of them others. They aren't pure followers of Jesus Christ. I wouldn't trust [any] of them with a handful of change to go get me some bubble gum. There's nothing of any value in [any] of those human beings.”

He went on to state that even despite Obama’s support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community, which the Kansas church has famously been at odds with, the current president would still be a better choice than the Republican candidates.

Westboro leaders have not made their opposition of Obama a secret, and have a section on their website titled “The Beast Obama,” which is an attempt to portray the president as the Biblical Antichrist, who will bring about Judgment Day, as prophesied in the Book of Revelation.

“The Beast (Obama) pretends to be modest and humbly admit his flaws; his fierce countenance is kept under wraps for the moment; the more power he gets, the more it will come out; his own words slip out to show you he craves power that comes from the masses,” an excerpt from the website reads.

Talking about these allegations, Phelps confirmed that his church believes “it (Obama being the Antichrist) is a prophecy of the Bible that he will lead this nation. The scripture tells you that we won't have anyone of genuine value have the least bit of interest in being a leader in this country, because it's so rotten.”

In the same interview, Phelps said that despite his church’s warnings, homosexual marriage would inevitably be accepted by society, which will lead to return of Jesus Christ to judge all mankind.

Westboro Baptist Church was unable to be reached for further comment at the time of press.

In a YouTube video dated Oct. 25, 2011, Timothy Phelps gave another interview in front of the Ohio State University campus, where a group of Westboro members had come to preach against homosexuality.

He said that what sets his church aside from all the others is that his ministry gives the word of God straight – they do not preach the scripture deceitfully, and are not interested in lining their pockets with cash by lying to people.
